The Development of India in World Trade
This episode of the series explores the rise of India in world trade from approximately 200 BCE to 200 CE. Focusing on three elements - silk, spices and rice - the will written and well filmed PBS documentary takes the viewer back nearly 2000 years. Exploring the northern and western regions of India, we are exposed to the influences of the Roman and Greek culture and the trade routes, the development of new kingdoms and city-states, and many of the ancient treasures of the silk road - especially Buddhist art and culture, much of which was destroyed in the last century by fundamentalists. A great way to spend an hour, learning about the history and culture of a land that we Westerners do not understand, but has significant and growing influence on the modern world.
